Background
UP Election 2022 Live Updates: Under the fourth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, voting is going on in 59 seats in nine districts today. In the fourth phase of assembly elections, polling is being held in 59 assembly seats in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Unnao, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Banda and Fatehpur districts. A total of 2.12 crore voters will decide the fate of 624 candidates in this phase. In the last assembly elections held in the year 2017, the BJP had won 51 out of these 59 seats. Apart from this, SP got four, BSP got three and BJP’s ally Apna Dal-Sonelal got one seat.
The campaigning for the fourth phase was very ‘high voltage’ and all the political parties gave their full strength in the campaign work. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the target of BJP was mostly SP. The BJP launched a scathing attack on the SP over the sentence awarded to the accused in the Ahmedabad bomb blasts case last Friday and termed it as a party sympathizing with terrorists.
On the other hand, the SP alliance led by Akhilesh Yadav sought votes from the voters, counting the alleged failures of the BJP. In most of his rallies, Akhilesh claimed that the SP alliance received strong support in the first three phases of the elections, saying that this time there will be a historic defeat for the BJP in the elections. BSP President Mayawati also held several rallies and appealed to the people to keep SP, BJP and Congress away from power and said that only BSP can give real good governance to the people of the state.
Congress General Secretary and party’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra organized road shows and meetings at various places and sought votes for the party candidates and appealed to the voters not to vote on the basis of religion and caste but on basic issues. Lakhimpur Kheri, which came into the limelight for the death of eight people, including four farmers, in the violence that took place on October 3 last year in Tikoniya village, will also go to polls in the fourth phase itself.
Among the prominent candidates whose reputation is at stake in the fourth phase are State Law Minister Brijesh Pathak (Lucknow Cantt), Minister Ashutosh Tandon (Lucknow East), former minister SP candidate Abhishek Mishra (Sarojini Nagar), former Deputy Speaker of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Nitin Agarwal (Lucknow East). Hardoi). Apart from this, Rae Bareli, which is considered to be the ‘stronghold’ of the Nehru-Gandhi family, will also vote in the fourth phase. Here Aditi Singh, who left the Congress and joined the BJP, is once again in the fray.
