UP CM taps our phones, listens to calls himself, claims Akhilesh Yadav; Yogi Adityanath responds

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in a press conference on Sunday accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of ‘phone-tapping’.

“All our phones are being tapped and our conversations are being recorded. All the phones in the party office are being listened to, the CM himself is listening to some of the recordings in the evening. If you contact us, then know that your call is being listened to by them,” he alleged.

Addressing a press conference, the former CM alleged that ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the BJP government would start misusing various enforcement agencies to persecute SP leaders in days to come. The remarks come a day after a string of raids and searches by the Income Tax department at some SP leaders’ offices and residences.

“Till now, these institutions were for those who are in power. However, the government is using them to make sure the SP does not form the next government,” Yadav said.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath responds to phone tapping allegations by Akhilesh Yadav

Responding to Akhilesh Yadav’s accusations, CM Yogi said, “Probably Akhilesh did something similar when he was power so he is now accusing others.” He spoke to Aaj Tak/India Today during BJP’s Jan Vishwas Yatra at Mathura.

On the matter of Income Tax Department (IT) raiding homes of Akhilesh’s aides, UP CM Yogi said, “IT raids are part of a routine process. There is no government intervention on it. This is not happening for the first time. This used to happen even during the time of Congress. This is a case of disproportionate assets. This is a matter of Congress time and not BJP’s time.”

Yadav dubbed Adityanath as the most “anupyogi’ (useless) chief minister and sought to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll formula “UP+Yogi=Upyogi”, aimed at asserting the utility of the Adityanath government for UP’s growth.
